FORMER POLICE CHIEF

AUCKLAND, Monday The death has occurred of Mr Charles W. Hendrey, of Mount Eden, a former superintendent of police in Auckland. He served for 47 years in the Police Force. Mr Hendrey was bom in London 80 years ago, and came to New Zealand in 1876. An outstanding event in his career was his part in the capture of the noted Maori “prophet” Te Whiti, at Parihaka.
