SOLDIERS WELFARE COMMITTEE The Hairini Soldiers’ Welfare committee held a most successful dance in the Town Hall on Friday evening. Music was supplied by Mrs E. Holmes’ Orchestra, and Mrs T. Dibble and Mr A. Thomas played the extras. Mr A. B. White acted as Master of Ceremonies. A novelty dance was won by Miss L. Chapman and partner. A most enjoyable supper was served by the ladies, the tables being artistically arranged with bowls of summer flowers.
SUCCESSFUL CARD EVENING
A most successful card evening was. held in the Borough Council Chambers on Saturday evening by the Te Awamutu Ladies’ Patriotic Committee. Mesdames J. Lolich and W. Tucker were in charge of the very largely attended function. The room was bright with bowls of beautiful hydrangeas and dahlias. The bridge was won by Mrs J. Hutchinson and the five hundred by Mrs J. Russell. Competitions went to Mrs Montefiore and Mrs McAlpine. Among those present were:— Mesdames J. Lolich and W. Tucker (convenors), L. G. Armstrong, McAlpine, Magill, Williams, Gadsby, Ferguson, Marsh, H. Mexted, Hopping, Perrin, M. Montefiore, Dukes, A. Kay. Ellis, Woodward, Shields, Campbell, Clifford, J. Hutchinson, Thomson, Elliott, Goodall, Gee, Tuck, G. Farrell, Roberts, Knight, H. Brown, Ford, Cran (Kihikihi), Russell, Boryer, M. Houston, Ryan. O’Leary, Horan, Tucker, Young, M. Friedlander and Misses Walker.. Dennis and Hayward.
