CHURCH SOCIAL

MISS M. SHAW HONOURED Another tribute to the popularity of Miss Mavis Shaw was the large attendance at a social evening organised by members of the Waikato East Presbyterian Church and their friends and held in the Matangi Church Hall. A pianoforte duet by Misses Yvonne and Mavis Hilliary, vocal solos by Miss Elsie Shaw and Mr B. Wright, and humorous recitations by Miss Lily Ringer were much enjoyed. Mrs B. Nottage played the accompaniments. On behalf of the members of the P.W.M.U. and the choir members, Miss Elsie Shaw presented the guest-of-honour with a beautiful bouquet and wished her success and happiness. The Rev. Nottage asked Miss Shaw to accept a handsome chiming clock from the members of the Waikato East Presbyterian Church and their friends, as a token of their esteem and with all good wishes for the future. Reference was made by both speakers to the willing and efficient service which Miss Shaw had rendered the Church as organist over a period of years. Mr McGough returned thanks. Following a short devotional period conducted by the Rev. B. Nottage, supper was served. Those present were Mesdames B. Nottage, C. Marychurch, E. Hicks, Roberts, T. Shaw, J. B.
