MIDDLE EAST RUGBY

SPECTACULAR SCORING MAADI CAMP SIDE WINS (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service) CAIRO, Feb. 12 (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service) A final burst of spectacular scoring movements in the last ten minutes, when eleven points were put on the board, gave the New Zealand Maadi Camp side a clear-cut victory by 23 points to 11 over the New Zealand Sixth Brigade Group at the Maadi Sporting Club today. Up till those last ten minutes the game had been even and a thrilling fight all the way, with Brigade attacking strenuously throughout the second half. When the score stood at 12—11 in Camp’s favour Brigade looked as though they would win, so telling were their thrusts. The Camp back line showed more individual brilliance but the Brigade defence was stern. The Brigade pack kept the Camp forwards bottled up for long periods. Spectacular Match The greatest try of the match resulted from a burst which brought the big soldier crowd shouting to its feet. The try was scored by W. McHugh, former Canterbury representative centre. He smashed a Brigade back attack, shortpunted, gathered the ball again and started off in a thrilling dash down touch to score in the corner after running flat-out three-quarters of the length’of the field. Tries for the winners were scored by O’Connor, Finlay, McHugh and Curtayne. One was converted by J. Fleming. Two penalty goals were kicked by Fleming and one by Smith. Brigade's points came from two tries by Forscutt, one of which was converted by Chamberlain, and a try by Jack. The teams were.—Maadi Camp: Fleming, Pettifer, Smith, McHugh, O’Connor, Curtayne. Dwyer, Wells. Pye, Stewart, Cleveley, Finlay, Powdrell, Gunn, Walker. Sixth Brigade: O’Connor, Day, Anglem, Jack, Rowe, Forscutt, Chamberlain, Morgan. Dean. King, Grant, Chandler, Miles, Lambouro, Gibb.
