TONIGHT’S PROGRAMMES CIVIC THEATRE The popular ?tar or Leslie Charteris* “The Saint” series, George Sanders, has bon featured in a new series by R.K.O. Radio. The first episode in the life of Michael Arlen’s rainous super-sleuth, whose charm with women is as great as his deductive ability, is told in ‘ The Gay Falcon,” which is now showing at the Civic Theatre. Other members of a strong supporting cast are Wendy Rarry, Gladys Cooper, Alien Jenkins and Edward Bropliy. REGENT THEATRE One of the most spectacular films to be shown in Hamilton, “Ziegfeld Girl,” will commence a season at the Regent Theatre today. Judy Garland, the popular star of “Little- Nellie Kelly,” and- “Strike Up the Band,” has the leading role, supported by Tony Martin, lan Hunter, Charles Winniger, Edward Everett Horton, Jackie Cooper and Philip Dorn. Song hits featured include: “Minnie From Trinidad,” “You Stepped Out of a Dream.” “I'm Always Chasing Rainbows,” “Whispering,” “Mr Gallagher and. Mr Shean” and “Carribean Ix>ve Song.” STATE THEATRE One of the most popular stories from the pen or Zone Grey, “Riders or the Purple Sage,” has been remade with the new cowboy ptar, George Montgomery, in the leading rote. Otlier players who take part in this colourful epic of the West are. Mary Howard and Robert Barrat. The latest adventure or Mr Wong, detective; is described in “Doomed to Die,” featuring Boris Karloff, Marjorie Reynolds and Grant Withers. Karloff solves a double murder mystery, following the mysterious killing of a millionaire and the sinking of bis ship. ROXY THEATRE Combining romance, laughter, memories and melodies, “Tin -Pan Alley” narrates the experiences of ’two song publishers (Jack Oakie and John Payne), whose songs achieve prominence after Alice Faye sings them. Some of America’s greatest popular song writers of yesterday and today contribute their biggest bits to the film, which moves at a rapid tempo through the troubled Great War years. James Oliver Curwood’s famous story of North-west Canada is mined in “River’s End,” which is the associate reature. THEATRE ROYAL Husband and wife in real life, Joan Blondell and Dick Powell are cast as a married couple in “I Want a Divorce,” Paramount's comedy-drama of marital differences. Dick Powell, forsaking his musical roles, is seen as a young lawyer who knows lie can earn a good living as a divorce lawyer, while his wife is unalterably opposed to such a career in view of her sister’s unhappy divorce. The supporting film is Columbia’s “Western Caravan,” featuring Charles Starrett.
