TEACHERS ON SERVICE

PAY FOR HOLIDAY PERIOD (By TeJpgraDh.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday Teachers who serve with any of the military forces during the Christmas and New Year holidays will receive both military and civil pay for the period of the holidays. An announcement of this decision, which has just been reached, was made by the Director of Education, Dr. C. E. Beeby, today. Dr. Beeby said teachers had felt some sense of grievance that they were losing their civil holiday pay, which they thought they had earned. The decision applied as from December 1. It applied to holidays only, so that if a teacher were to remain in camp, having entered during the last holidays, his ordinary civil pay would continue only until January 31. The principle, however, would also apply for future school holidays. Dr. Beeby said the decision would affect training college lecturers and secondary and technical, as well as primary school teachers.
