LEGACY OF £700,000
UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) MELBOURNE, Sept. 23 The second huge legacy left for educational purposes in recent weeks was announced today when probate was applied for in the estate of David Edward Lewis, proprietor of the drapery firm of Love and Lewis, Melbourne. Mr Lewis left £700,000 as a perpetual trust for scholarships at Melbourne University. The will provides for scholarships for any course other than theology, music and arts for boys of parents earning not more than £6 a week. By the will of Mr Truby Williams, of Victoria, who died in August, £400,000. almost his entire estate, was left to various charities and educational institutions. The will directed that half the estate be held in trust to set aside for the university, various technical colleges and hospitals as endowments. The other half will be a perpetual charity trust with an annual income for charitable purposes in Victoria.
