SECOND DAY RESULTS HURDLES TO GENERAL RUSE GAG MIMIC WIN’S PRESIDENT’S (By Telegraph—Special from “Martian”) The second day or the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s spring meeting, was held to* d-av on tne Te Aloha Jockey Club's course. General Ruse showed improved form when he won the hurdle event in an exciting finish with King Rey and the consistent Ma.vown, the trio passing the post practically In line. Stokowski, the pace-maker
for tne greater part, tired quickly in the concluding stages. Stokowski was followed early by Orient Dawn, and this pair made play passing the stands from Maxown, Conflagration and King Rey. Along the back General Ruse was taken up behind Stokowski and they were on terms at rhe half-mile in front or Conflagration and Maxown. General Ru*e shaded Stokowski at the home turn when King Rey commenced to make a forward move Just behind Maxown. In the straight Genera: Ruse outstayed King Rey to win by a neck, with Maxown only a 'head away. Ver\ Glad was rourth and then c-ame Cc-nflas-ra don, Fat Boy and Stokowski. Time, 3.20

Winner trained by D. J. Burgess, Takanlni. First Edition endorsed his good form of tha Avondale meeting when he won narrowly after leading practically from end to end. It was a tight finish, with Sir Dingle putting up a great effort only a neck away, and the improving Royal Meiody a head behind him. Miss Gay Tailed again, the best She could manage being a moderate rourth. Kairow* broke throue-h the tapes and delayed the start. First Edition led out from Miss Gay, snake ouliv and Royal Melody, and First Edition was still In command at the hair-mile, closely followed by Snake Gully, Royal Melody, Sir Dingle, Miss Guy and MlhinuL. Royal Melody, on the outer, was right on the heels or First Edition as they turned Tor home. Sir Dingle was handily placed, wltn Snake Gully and Dorset handiest of tne others. In a spectacular finish First Edition got the verdict by a neck over Mr Dingle, with Royal Melody a head away Miss Gay was fourth, and then came Mlhlnul, Manuma and Dorset. Time, 1.18.

Beau Leon, favourite on both machines, was narrowly beaten Into fourth. Gay Mimic and Royevrus were the smartest to find their Teet. Royevrus leading when they bad settled down from Gay Mimic. Trig Station. Full Hand, Flying Acre, Beau Leon and Philemup, with Coronation and Lou Rosa bringing up the rear. Royevrus was In charge along the back and led at the half-mile rrom Trig Station. Gay Mimic and Flying Acre. The order of the leaders was unchanged as they raced to the turn, Gay Mimic doing best In the run home to beat Flying Acre by a hpad. SATURDAY’S RESULTS TOWN SECTION AT LONG ODDS TRIG STATION WINS MILE The success of Erndale, who was having his first race in the colours of Ills new owner, and the surprise achievement o! Town Section in the open sprint were features of the racing at Te Aroha on Saturday, the opening day or the poverty Bay Turf Club - spring meeting when fine weather conditions at racted a good attendance. BeTsander improved on recent display.-, to win tne hurdle event, Harmony endorsed her good Avondale form to win at a raise price. Little Rose realised popular expectations to score narrowly over Hinkler In the hack mile. Betterman returned over a quarter or a century when he won the Trial Handicap from another outsider in Sir Dingle. The going was in good order. New Plymouth. The Te Rapa apprentice, c. B. Goulsbro, who had earlier won the chler event on Erndale, rode another well-judged race to bring Trig station home at short odds. He was fairly well back at the home turn but finished full of running to score going away from the improving Kllrash and Gay Mimic, who should be all the better for the race. Ascot Bloom was taken to the front at the outset and led at the hair-mile from Lornacre and Gay Mimic. Turning Tor home Lornacre had assumed the initiative to make pVay a- they straightened up from Gay Mimic, Ascot Bloom, Fuii Hand. Trig Station and Karatokl Trig station asserted himself in the deciding suites to prevail by a length and a halt rrom Kilcash with Gay Mimic two lengths awav.
