FATE OF NAZI PLANE

FLYING-BOAT’S EXPLOIT MANNED BY AUSTRALIANS (omclal Wireless) (Received June 7, 3.15 p.m.) RUGBY, June 6 An Australian-manned Sunderland flying-boat of the Coastal Command yesterday shot down a German float plane in the Atlantic. A second enemy float plane broke off combat and fled. One of the float planes attacked with a cannon from a range of half-a-mile, but the Sunderland gunners held their fire. When the range was reduced the gunners went into action, scoring many hits. The German broke away and was seen to make two attempts to land on the water, but finally crashed into the sea. The second float plane flew over the spot and made off at top speed. The Sunderland, _ which, suffered no damage, circled for a time, but there were ho survivors.
