SPINAL MENINGITIS
TRAVELLING BY MAORIS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WHANGAREI, Friday One more case of spinal meningitis has been admitted to the Kawakawa Hospital, making a total of 17 since the outbreak of the disease. The latest patient is a Maori child from Ngawha, a Maori settlement between Ohaeawai and Kaikohe and about 18 miles from Kawakawa. Inquiries made by Health Department officials &iow that the child came into contact with persons from Moerewa. Despite repeated warnings by the Health Department that the public should travel as little as possible to and from areas in the north, so that the risk of carrying the germs may be reduced to the minimum, there is evidence that within the past fortnight a good many Maoris have gone from place to place, especially Maoris in areas surrounding Rawene, Ohaeawai, and Kaikohe. Railway bookings this week showed no diminution in these district. Several Maoris have gone to Ratana, others to Auckland and National Park.
