LOSS TO PHILATELY
LATE MR C. W. ARMSTRONG WAIKATO SOCIETY MEETS Feeling references to the death of Mr C. W. Armstrong, of Hamilton, were made by Mr M. C. Gudex, chairman of the Waikato Philatelic Society’s meeting last night, and respect to his memory was shown by members standing in silence for a time. It was resolved to convey the society’s sympathy to Mrs Armstrong. A letter was received from the New Plymouth Society asking for affiliation of membership, including participation in exchange books. It was resolved to reply asking for further details of the proposal. Miss Satchell’s competition again brought Mr D. Edsall as winner, but the prizes were finally awarded to Mr C. R. Coates and Mrs Whittaker. Mrs F. E. Whittaker gave a comprehensive lecture on the Red Cross stamps of the world, illustrated by several fine examples. Mrs Whittaker was accorded a vote of thanks, with a recommendation that the paper be read to the next meeting ol the junior society on May 28.
The address for the June meeting will be by Mr D. Edsall, his subject to be envelopes and covers. Through the courtesy of the Post and Telegraph Department a display of the proofs and drawings of the New Zealand Chamber of Commerce i>suc was made. These were particularly interesting, showing the whole process of design ana, ing together with coloux trials.
