FIRE AT HOSPITAL

PATIENTS NOT INJURED EMERGENCY SCHEME WORKERS ; (By Telegraph.—Press Association) NELSON, Wednesday Fire damaged a portion of the old wooden block at the Nelson Hospital this morning. The outbreak occurred in the upstairs storerooms above the isolation block, which was occupied by several patients. All the patients in isolation and in the adjoining Ward 4, were removed safely from the building. Despite a strong south-westerly v/ind the brigade made a good save, confining the fire to the eastern end of the building. Members of the fire section of the Emergency Precautions Scheme were in operation for the first time and gave valuable assistance. The main hospital was not threatened but the wards were filled with heavy smoke. However, there was no confusion or alarm. The hospital Etaff used the emergency fire fighting equipment, which assisted in keeping the flames in check till the arrival of the brigade.
