EXTRA BUTTER BOXES

OVERTIME ALLOWANCE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday Owing to the increase in the demand for butter coxes during the present season it has been necessary to arrange with one or two makers to supply the additional boxes required instead of arranging the allocation of the quantity needed among all manufacturers of boxes. The makers elected to manufacture the boxes needed in addition to those already ordered, but in order to do so had to work overtime and pay overtime rates. As there was no power previously to reimburse them for the expenditure in overtime wages it was found necessary to bring down the export butter box pool regulations, 1938, amendment 2, which was gazetted to-night and which now allows of this.
