HOME GUARD UNIT
BATTALION REORGANISATION A large number of n.c.o.’s who were given temporary appointments earlier in the week took over at last night’s parade of the Hamilton unit cf the Home Guard, attended at Rugby Park by close on 700 men. Other prospective n.c.o.’s will undergo examination at the class on Sunday morning. The battalion is to be reorganised at the parade next Thursday night. Platoon and section drill were carried out last night, followed by lectures in the training shed on messages and reports and field sketches. FIRST OHAUPO PARADE The first parade of the Ohaupo Home Guard unit was held on Tuesday, with the 0.C., Mr B. C. O’Connor, in charge. Fourteen new members joined up. Drill was interspersedl with physical training. Future parades will be held in the Memorial Hall weekly at 8 p.m. MORE UNITS FORMED A well-attended meeting at Glen Afton on Wednesday night decided to form a Home Guard unit, and 37 members were enrolled. Mr T. Gray was elected leader. At Tauwhare last night another unit was formed and 25 members enrolled, Mr W. W. Goodare being elected leader.
