PROGRESS AT ROTORUA EIGHT TEAMS STILL IN With the completion of section play in the Rotofua bowling tournament yesterday, 17 teams remained in, but two rounds of post-section play saw nine teams eliminated. Those who qualified for post-sec-tion play were as follows: —-W. A. Gosling (Onehunga). H. J. Richards (Devonport), A. Arkle (Waiuku). A. Budd (Rotorua), H. de Launay (Carlton), F. Needham (West End), W. Bremner (Auckland). 8 wins, 2 losses: P. Stewart (Matamata), J. Gardiner (Otnhuhu). A. W. Parkinson (Hastings). W. Leather (Devonport). J. Martin (Carlton), J. H. Mingins (Onehunga), W. Jones (Rotorua). A. Taylor (Carlton), R. Noonan (Te Awamutu), W. E. Taylor (Mount Eden), 7 wins, 3 losses. Results of post-section play were as follows: First Round.—Needham 17, v. Noonan 13. Second Round. —Stewart 18, v. Richards 16; Budd 26, v. A. Taylor 23; de Launay 21, v. W. E. Taylor 13; Mingins 23, v. Arkle 11; Gosling 24, v. Gardiner 21: Martin 22, v. Leather 10; Bremner 20, v. Jones 17. The only Waikato team still in at the end of play yesterday was that of P. Stewart. Matamata, who narrowly beat Richards, Devonport, in the second round. WAIKATO CHAMPIONSHIPS The third round of the champion of champions competition conducted by the South Auckland Bowling .Centre is to be played on Saturday. At Ngaruawahia green the Frankton Railway team meets the winner from the Huntly green. At Te Awamutu the home team meets Frankton, while at Te Aroha the winners of the Paeroa and Matamata areas meet. At Cambridge, the Hamilton and Putaruru teams meet. The finals will be played in Hamilton on February 22. The Centre’s champion of champions pairs competition commences on Saturday, February 15.
