TE AVVAMUTU COUNCIL RENTAL CAR LICENSES (Special to Times) TE AWAMUTU, Wednesday The first meeting for the year of the Te Awamutu Borough Council was attended by the Mayor, Mr G. Spinley, and Messrs J. C. Montefiore, \V. J. North, J. A. Maxwell, C. J. Spiers, L. S. Armstrong, A. D. Wallace and A. Brown. The Power Board advised that it would reduce charges for lighting purposes in the Town Hall when it was used for patriotic purposes to 3d a unit. It was decided to vote £5 to the Te Awamutu Home Guard for payment of petty expenses. Permission was given to the Physical Welfare and Recreation Department to use the Town Hall on Wednesday evenings for the purpose of training the Te Awamutu Women’s Auxiliary unit, provided that the hall was not otherwise required at any timtf» The Mayor reported that as the result of a conference between council representatives and the interested parties finality had been reached in connection with the new stock route. Some councillors expressed the view that interested parties should approach the council before it could take any action, and the matter was dropped. There were many apologies from people who had attended the initial meeting. Another meeting will be called at an early date. VETERINARY CORPS The Town Hall was the scene of much activity on Tuesday night when the newly-formed unit of the Veterinary Hospital Corps of the Territorial Forces was issued. The unit, which goes into camp at Waiouru in April, will hold a parade at Albert Park next Tuesday under Captain J. Self. ELECTORS’ ROLL The electors’ roll for Te Awamutu borough closes tomorrow, but a perusal shows that although efforts have been made to make it as complete as possible, there are many residents who have not made application for curolmen
