HEAVY RAIN
UNFAVOURABLE FORECAST WET CHRISTMAS EXPECTED High temperatures and continuous heavy rain, with a possible improvement after tomorrow, was the weather forecast this afternoon. Drizzling rain that increased in intensity as the day wore on dismayed campers and holiday-makers throughout the province today. After threatening conditions yesterday the inky-black of the sky last night yielded to misty rain which commenced about 8 o’clock. Humid and unpleasant weather, with the thermometer showing a maximum reading of 84 and a minimum of 68 degrees, accompanied the rain. The fall today was steady and showed no signs of clearing. The forecast which threatens heavy rain will not hearten holidaymakers, who had been encouraged bv weeks of perfect summer conditions to expect a fine Christmas. Not only will the position of campers be unenviable, but it is possible that if the rain continues in increased intensity, swollefi streams and heavy mud may render some of the backcountry roads impassable. Christmas last year was fine, but a violent thunderstorm accompanied by hail marred outdoor activities on Boxing Day.
