HIGHER LEVELS

INCREASE IN PRODUCTION NOVEMBER HERD STATISTICS Further indication of the substantial increase in dairy production this season is provided by the November statistics of the Auckland Herd Improvement Association. The average return of the 110,025 cows tested by the association last month was 839 lbs of milk, with 39.2 lbs. of fat. For the corresponding month last year the 78,938 cows tested averaged 815 lbs of milk, with 36.7 lbs. of fat. The highest groups for the association in November were the Kaipaki, Kawhia and the Tahuna-Hoe-o-Tainui groups, in which the cows averaged 43 lbs. fat. With an average of 58 lbs. of fat, the highest-produc-ing herds were in the Clevecion and Matiere-Ohura groups. The highest individual production for the month was 115 lbs, this being given by a cow in the Ngarua group and one in the Rodney group. Waikato dairy company’s report that production is keeping up particularly well. Heavy rain this month came at an opportune time and should ensure present high production levels being maintained for a longer period.
