EDUCATIONAL CENTRE

NEW HAMILTON CONVENT ROOM FOR 100 BOARDERS One of the most modern educational establishments in the Dominion will be opened shortly when work on the new combined boarding-school and convent of St. Mary’s in Clyde Street, Hamilton East, is completed. This imposing building, which consists of a central block and two wings containing up-to-date dormitories, dining-rooms, recreational and study halls for the boarding pupils and the Sisters, is expected to be completed early next year. In the eastern wing, which was completed about two years ago, there are two dormitories and 30 cubicles, providing sleeping accommodation for about 100 boarders. The central block contains kitchens and study halls, while the western wing is designed as sleeping compartments for the Sisters. Pupils will come to the school from all parts of South Auckland, as there is no other Catholic boarding school for girls between Auckland and New Plymouth. The central block and western wing are being constructed by Mr Thomas Clement, of Otahuhu, while the architect is Mr Daniel B. Patterson, also of Auckland. The total cost of the structure is estimated at between £35,000 and £40,000.
