SCHOOL GALA DAY
DISPLAYS AT MATAMATA (Special to Times) MATAMATA, Thursday Perfect weather and the growing interest in the Matamata District High School due to the success of previous similar functions combined to draw a record crowd to the gala day held in the fine school grounds or. Wednesday. Applause greeted massed displays by the boys and gjrls, physical drill by the girls being of a high order which was not excelled by the boys. The senior giGs performed a Peasant Dance and later a Dutch Dance. A Folk Dance oy intermediate girls followed. A large group of senior and junior boys arouscvl enthusiasm with an athletic display entitled “Pyramids.’ Many remained for a tour through the classrooms, where the term’s work was on display. Woodwork, arts and crafts, dressmaking and engineering all came in for attention and the variety and quality of the work on display, whether it was a gramaphone cabinet, coatee or an upright engine was a revelation. The engineering section proved especially interesting as this new department is only in its second year.
