HOME FOR SOLDIERS
MR BURLEY’S GESTURE GENEROUS HOSPITALITY Soldiers visiting Hamilton on leave have had cause to appreciate the generosity of Mr F. W. Burley, who has made of his residence in River j Road a home for soldiers. The ges- | ture was first made several weeks ! ago, and already more than 50 troops ■ have been his guests for a week-end. j Mr Burley has furnished his home j so that comfortable accommodation I is available for 10 soldiers at a time, i two sharing a room with comfortable | beds. No hour is too late for Mr Burley to extend hospitality to men in uniform, for he realises that i they are making a sacrifice which ! every citizen should appreciate to • the fullest extent. All the troops who visit his residence for a week-end are made to feel at home. Excellent meals are provided for them and before each meal the men * stand while the National Anthem is played on a gramophone. The soldiers are expected to have a rest while they are Mr Burley’s • guests and they are not asked to
work at all. Or course many of the men are unwilling to accept such hospitality without some return, and they offer to do the dishes and other odd jobs. In excellent grounds, covering an acre, they can rest while on leave. Among Mr Burley’s guests have been troops from many parts of New Zealand, including several from the southernmost provinces.
