MORMON ELDERS CABLED ORDER RECEIVED* (By Telegraph.—rrp?s Association) AUCKLAND, Wednesday All the elders of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints (Mormons). numbering 34, have been ordered by cablegram to return to Salt Lake City, United States by the Mariposa, leaving on Monday. All are of military age and subject to the American conscription law. The president. Mr Matthew Cowlev, will be the only one left in New Zealand. He said the evacuation was a matter of church policy. Within two months of the outbreak of war 600 elders were evacuated from Europe. This will be the first time for 50 years that the church in New Zealand has been left without a missionary. However the church is well established in the Dominion and will be organise<:i under local supervision.
