NAZI PROPAGANDA MORE LIES UNMASKED PLANE WITH DEATH’S HEAD “END OF A PIRATE” (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Oct. 16. 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 15 The Volkischer Beobachter on September 14 published a photograph of German airmen examining a wrecked aeroplane bearing a death’s head device. The picture was captioned, “The End of a British Pirate.” The aeroplane, however, is plainly a Junkers 88. wherefore the Ministry of Information asks why did Goebbels use a’wrecked Nazi plane for propaganda when he claims to have shot down so many British machines over Germany. It must be some form of pure Aryan subtlety which Britons find it difficult to appreciate. The Ministry issued a reproduction of the photograph, also a picture of a Junkers shot down in England, from which there is no doubt of the character of the machine. German Allegations A German communique says: The enemy customarily flew over German-occupied territories after nightfall and met with effective defences. Bombs were dropped but caused slight material damage to non-military objects and buildings and losses only among civilians. A high-explosive bomb again hit the Rudolph Virtchow Hospital in Berlin, which was marked with a Red Cross, easily distinguishable. The destruction caused to Le Havre in the last few days, also Dutch territory, was particularly heavy. Numerous buildings were destroyed by fire, so part of the population is without a roof over its head.
The Luftwaffe dropped 147 tons of bombs on London yesterday.
