D.F.C. FOR COURAGE PILOT FROM GISBORNE TWIN BROTHER KILLED (By Telegxapb,— Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday Details of the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross recently awarded to Pilot-Officer Colin Falkland Gray, a New Zealander serving with the Royal Air Force, have been received by Air Headquarters. An extract states that since May, 1940 he has flown continuously with his squadron on offensive patrols. He took part in numerous operations during the Dunkirk evacuation and subsequently throughout air operations over the Kentish coast and the protection of Channel shipping. He shot down four Messerschmitt 1 09 s and one Dornier 215. Hi* courage and determination contributed materially to maintaining the high morale of his squadron. He is a twin brother of PilotOfficer Kenneth Neil Gray, who also was awarded the D.F.C. in January, and was later reported killed on active service. Pilot-Officer Colin Gray will be 26 next month. Educated at Christ’s College, Christchurch Wellesley College, Wellington and Napier Boys’ High School, he was accepted for a short service commission with the Royal Air Force in 1938, when he left for the United Kingdom. His father is Mr R. L. Gray, Gisborne.
