PRICES FOR MEAT
EXPORT TO BRITAIN NO CONTRACT ARRANGED HIGH RATES FOR STORES Waikato farmers are very keen to learn the opening export schedule prices for meat this season and have made many inquiries during the last week or two. However, no contract has yet been made with the British Government and until this is done it is not likely that any export schedule will be announced. The opinion of those connected with the trade is that prices will be a little easier this season because of the drop in market rates for hides and pelts. Unusually high prices have continued to rule for store stock of all descriptions, and it appears that current rates will be out of proportion to those which will rule for fats. However, because of the forward pasture growth this season, graziers have been more or less forced at times to load up with the maximum number of stores and have even bought boners for grazing purposes. Although lambs are in a forward condition, it does not seem as if farmers will be killing lambs in any number till the end of November. The season has been a remarkably good one for lambs and record percentages are reported in many areas. In all branches of the meat trade, a highly favourable season as far as killings are concerned is indicated, although it is not expected that carcase numbers will exceed the record numbers handled last season.
