MORALS OF MAORIS
GRAVE CONCERN OF CHURCH AIM OF BISHOP’S MINISTRY (By TelcgrapD.—Press Association) AUCKLAND. Tuesday The position of the work of the church among the Maori people of the diocese gave cause for serious concern, said Bishop Simkin in his first charge to the Anglican Synod to-day. “The prevalence of drunkenness, lack of control in moral conduct, and indifference to worship are three evils which demand the serious attention of Synod,” the Bishop continued. “The Church cannot stand aside merely looking on and doing nothing to stem the devastation of the spiritual lives of the Maori people. We must seek to find out where our weakness lies and apply the remedy." In fullest co-operation with the Bishop of Aotearoa, the Rt. Rev. F. A. Bennett, he hoped to exercise toward the Maori people the ministry of his office and to bring more closely together in worship and service of God the people of the two races.
