SICK AND WOUNDED QUEEN CARNIVAL RESULT SOUTH AREA CONTRIBUTION The final meeting of the committee controlling the activities of the Queen of the South, Mrs Gordon Matthews, who won the Auckland Provincial queen carnival for the sick and wounded distress fund appeal, was held last night, and the complete figures for the various districts were announced. Mr J. R. Fow, who presided, referred to the great success of the appeal and paid a tribute to the generous support in all districts. The organiser, Mr C. G. Hunt, and the secretary, Mr T. J. B. Mason, had conducted the campaign in a masterly manner, said Mr Fow, and were to be heartily congratulated on the magnificent results achieved. Mr Fow also referred to the self-sacri-ficing work of the Queen of the South and her maids of honour, and expressed the hope that the standard set would be maintained in all future appeals. Nearly £45,000 Raised After Mr Hunt had presented a comprehensive report on the conduct of the campaign the secretary, Mr Mason, presented the balance sheet, which showed that £36,407 18s lid had passed through the committee’s hands. With the’money sent direct to Auckland, the Queen of the South’s contribution to the appeal was approximately £15,000. The final figures from Auckland had not been received. The stock drives throughout the district, where the money \yas paid into the committee, resulted in £1569 0s lid being raised, while the conduct of art unions over the whole district returned £3276 18s. The figures for the individual districts therefore excluded most of the art unions and stock drives. Hamilton headed the list of individual donations with £6319 9s sd. Te Aroha was next with £3740 13s 3d and Matamata followed with £3389 7s Bd.' On the payment side expenses for the entire campaign were only £165 9s lid, and the committee remitted £36,305 9s to Auckland.
