TENNIS OPENING

CLUB’S SUCCESSFUL DAY The precincts of the Cambridge Tennis Club were dotted with creamclad figures moving about on the courts or reclining on the lawns surrounding the pavilion, when the opening day on Saturday drew a large attendance. Bright sunshine made the conditions for play particularly pleasant. The president, Mr V. C. Hollis, welcomed the members and visiting players as well as many interested spectators, the new season being declared open when Mrs Hollis had served the first ball. The pavilion and afternoon tea table were brightly decorated with Iceland poppies. Members of the social committee present were: Mesdames J. R. Haworth, P. Skousgaard, B. Bromwich, W. O. Cubis, N. L. Macky, and Misses V. Appleby, K. Harvey, O. Harvey and M. Turney. A progressive tournament played throughout the afternoon was won by Miss Slater, ladies, and Mr Smaller (Hamilton), men.
