RESIDENTS FAREWELLED \ Friends from Taupiri and the sur- f rounding districts gathered recently to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs N. Wilson, who have left the district to reside in Cambridge. The music was supplied by Mrs Matangi’s Orchestra, and items and songs were rendered by Mr I. Te Wiata, of Ngaruawahia, and Mr W. Weather, of Cambridge. Mr G. Moore acted as master of ceremonies. During the evening Mr G. Walter asked the guests-of-honour to accept a canteen of cutlery from their friends, and the president of the Taupiri Tennis Club, Mr E. Williamson, presented them with a silver teapot on behalf of the Taupiri Tennis Club. On behalf of the sports bodies, Mr L. Powell presented Mr Wilson with a shaving outfit, and Mr Jack Wilson received a fountain pen from the residents of Taupiri. Mr and Mrs Wilson and Mr Jack Wilson suitably replied. ENJOYABLE DANCE An enjoyable evening was spent when the Taupiri Tennis Club members held their annual dance in the Taupiri Town Hall for the purpose of presenting trophies and prizes won during the season. The dance music was supplied by Mr Clarrie Cresswell’s Orchestra, and Mr F. J. Farrell acted as master of ceremonies. The successful players were as follows:—Senior ladies’ championship, Mrs J. C. Black; senior men’s championship, Mr R. Miller; junior ladies’ championship, Miss S. Gibb; junior men’s championship, Mr G. Braddock; ladies’ handicap, Mrs J. C. Black; men’s handicap, Mr G. Braddock; Labour Day tournament: j ladies, Mrs R. Miller; men’s, PJr J. McCurdy. The ladies of the management committee, in charge of the supper, were as follows:—Mesdames F. J. Farrell, A. Gibb, J. C. Black, R. Miller, E. Williamson, and Misses June Lovell and Elsie Scott.
