FEDERAL POLLS

POLITICAL IMPASSE SEEKING WAY OUT SIR E. PAGE’S RETURN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) SYDNEY, Oct. 10 The chief development in this week’s discussions in Melbourne, directed at finding a way out of the Federal political impasse, is the sudden re-entry into the arena of Sir Earle Page, former Country Party leader, who, besides being anxious to effect a personal reconciliation with the Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, is actually superseding his chief, Mr A. G. Camercrn, in the task of helping Mr Menzies to solve the problem of carrying on the Government with the aid of two Independents. Sir Earle Page flew to Melbourne from Sydney and had conferences I with Mr Menzies yesterday and today, after which a statement was issued saying that the conversations related to the desirability of forming an all-party National Government, and ways and means by which that result might be brought about, the parties agreeing that only by the formation of a National Government could the maximum war effort be achieved. Government supporters are convinced that Sir Earle Page will reenter the Ministry, a'nd probably will again assume the leadership of the Country Party. The Federal Labour parties will define their attitude on the deadlock nex; week.
