WHICH UNION?
POWER BOARD INSPECTORS . COURT ASKED TO DECIDE (By Telegraph.—special to Times) AUCKLAND, Monday The Court of Arbitration today heard ail appeal from a decision of Mr J. A. Gilmour, S.M., holding that it was not lawful for the Auckland Electric-Power Board to employ as inspectors men who were not members of the Auckland Electrical Trades Union. When the question as to which of two unions the inspectors should belong to was referred to the magistrate, he decided that it was answered by the Arbitration Court’s memorandum to the Northern, Wellington and Marlborough local authorities’ officers (Electric-Power Boards) award, specifically excluding inspectors from its operation. The Court had held that the inspectors were provided for by the Auckland Electrical Trades Union; and it followed, the magistrate thought, that they could not at the same time be regarded as coming within the scope of the Local Authorities Officers’ Union. The Court reserved its decision.
