WAGES & PRICES
BLANKET ORDER REFUSED MANUFACTURERS’ REQUEST POLICY OF TRIBUNAL (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Monday A blanket order to increase prices by 5 per cent to cover the recent increase in general wages had been refused by the Price Control Tribunal, stated a letter received today by the executive of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association from the New Zealand Manufacturers’ Federation. The federation enclosed a letter from tlie tribunal acknowledging an application for a blanket order. The tribunal stated it had carefully considered the application and regretted it was unable to grant any such general authority. The procedure adopted by the tribunal was to require either individual application or applications by trades or industrial groups on behalf of their constituent members, this being in accord with the policy adopted in regard to increases in costs generally and applications made for permission to increase prices on the grounds of such increased costs.
The executive agreed to approach the Manufacturers’ Federation asking that it should obtain a statement from the tribunal of its policy regarding the effect of the increase in wages, as there was much discontent among manufacturers at its present attitude.
