AIR RAID DISTRESS
WORLD-WIDE GENEROSITY £IO,OOO FROM NEW ZEALAND NEEDS OF AFFLICTED PEOPLE (omcial Wireless) (Received Sept. 17. 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY. Sept. 16 Large gifts from all over the world continue to be sent to the Lord Mayor’s London air raid distress fund. The Governor-General of New Zealand telegraphed £IO,OOO from the patriotic funds. £SOOO has been sent from the British colony in Buenos Aires, and £IOOO comes from the Maharaja of Durbhanga. Brisbane has cabled another £25,000, the Governor of the United Provinces a lakh of rupees, and the British war relief in New York £SOOO. The fund opened by a Kenya newspaper already amounts to over £BOO. At a meeting of the executive of the air raid distress fund large grants were made to meet the needs of afflicted boroughs. In one case £SOOO was given.
