'Midland ran right up to recent Torm and endorsed the promise he had shewn in recent trials at Te Rapa by finishing on very solidly, after being one or the last early, to wear down Racewhip and beat him decisively. The favourite I.apldarian attempted an end to end success, only to tire in the vital stages.

I.apldarian, Rlngshot and Tane M-ahotu were the first to show out and passing the stands Lapidarian was followed by Gappy, Valspear, Racewhip, King Musk Rlngshot and Small Boy, with Midland among the rear division. There was little change along the back, Lapidarian showing the way at the half-mile to King Musk, Cappy, Small Boy, Valspear, Midland, who was Improving his position, and Racewhip. Rounding the home turn Small Boy had gone up behind Lapidarian and this pair was followed here by King Musk. Racewhip and Midland. In a fine finish Racewhip who had hit the front at the last fence, was beaten by Midland by hal'f-a-length, with a similar distance to Laipidarlan. Winder, Te Rapa There was a complete surprise when the little rancied Agulla, who started on one occasion only last season, finished veiy solidly on the outer to outstay Expellant and beat him by half a length. Kara Avis was always handy to the leaders and stuck on for a meritorious third. Glen Connell arter having every chance, failed to go on with if in the concluding stages. Venture led early to be in charge when they settled down from Airport, Rara Avis, Expellant, Agulla. Glen Connell and l’oxoia. Expellant was taken to the front along the back and led here from Airport, Venture. Glen Connell and Village Green, lialf-a-inile from home Glen Connell went up behind Expellant and this pair led into the straight from Venture, Agulla, Airport Rara Avis and Foxola. in a spectacular finish AguLa, on the outer, got up to beat Expellant by half a length with Rara Avis three parts or a length away.
