SALE IN AMERICA

DOMINION TENNIS RACQUETS QUALITY APPRECIATED (By TelegTaph. —Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday “Indications that New Zealand workmanship can compare favourably with that of other countries, and that goods of Dominion manufacture can successfully compete with those of other lands, are given in a letter received from a New Zealander now resident temporarily in Chicago,” said the Minister of Industries and Commerce to-day. “Writing to friends he says: ‘I had occasion to visit a tennis store the other day for some gear and was looking at the tennis racquets. The salesman was showing me some racquets, and to my surprise, without his knowing I was from New Zealand, he brought* out some Australian and New Zealand racquets.

“ ‘The proprietor thinks a lot of the New Zealand article and sells quite a number. He said the workmanship was very good, and that some good players used them. They need to have a good name to sell over the tariff wall. I think the price was 8 to 10 dollars unstrung, and stringing costs 4.50 to 5.50 dollars. It seems that one needs to go outside one’s own country to learn appreciation of local products.’ ”
