CHURCHMEN’S SOCIETY

DIOCESAN CONFERENCE The Waikato diocesan conference of the Church of England Men’s Society was held at Te Awamutu on Saturday, the Bishop of Waikato, the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, presiding over a representative attendance of members. In his opening address the president drew attention to the progress made in various parts of the Dominion. He stressed the importance of keeping the various branches active, despite the fact that many of the members were on active service. A satisfactory financial report was presented by the treasurer, Mr A. B. Whyte. The following remit from the Matamata branch, was approved: •’That a minimum levy of 6d a member be made in each branch for the purpose of keeping contact with members on active service with the forces.” Two inspiring addresses given by Bishop Cherrington and the Rev. M. G. Sullivan provoked much discussion. The following officers were elected: President, Bishop Cherrington; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. B. Whyte; auditor, Mr R. English; executive committee, Messrs Woodley, B. Andrews, G. Oulds. J. Linsley, H. B. Robb, Canon C. W. Turner, Messrs J. T. Reid, W. H. Grace, E. Gribble, J. Ren wick and G. Win- , ter. ’ An invitation from the Matamata • branch to hold the next conference in that town was accepted.
