KAIPAKI WINS

DEFEAT OF COLTS Handicapped by the absence of two men, Colts put up a very creditable showing against Ka\paki. The final score was 2 —l in the country team’s favour, the score providing a good indication of the run of play. The teams were:— Kaipaki.—Goodwin, F. Boyd, C. Bones, M. Boyd, E. Farrell, L. Dunwoody, G. Boyd, A. Boyd, Graham, B. Ganley. T. Ganley. Colts.—McKinnon, Salisbury, W. Tozer, Jane, Harvey, Mackley, Campbell, Bogue, Tozer. Colts scored fairly early in the game. A fast attack down the flank brought the forwards to the circle. Bogue then went through on his own and goaled neatly from the edge of the circle.—Colts 1, Kaipaki 0. Colts Press Again Colts pressed hard on another occasion and a goal appeared likely. However, Harvey slipped when attempting to net and the goalie, Goodwin, made no mistake in sending the ball away. Graham headed an attack into Colts’ circle and the defence was sorely tried for the next few minutes. A ’’sticks’' infringement prevented Kaipaki taking any advantage from a penalty corner. However, Colts could not keep the country team's forwards out of the circle. Graham finally sending in a hard shot from close range.—Kaipaki 1, Colts 1. The country team went further ahead when G. Boyd netted from a loose forward rush.—Kaipaki 2, Colts 1. Kaipaki later forced a corner. Farrell was close to adding to the score, but Tozer, who had gone back into goal, blocked the shot particularly well. Colts had a chance when the forwards carried an attack into the circle. Harvey had a shot at goal from a penalty corner, but his effort was wide of the mark. Another Corner Colts kept pressing and forced u

further corner, but Bogue gave “sticks” when attempting to goal. A bully in the circle looked dangerous for Colts, but Harvey saved the position by sending the ball well downfield. Both teams continued to have an equal share in defence and attack. Farrell saved the situation for Kaipaki when he broke through on his own after Colts had threatened the goal following a long corner. Goodwin saved well when Bogue shot for goal during another attack. Harvey blocked the goalie’s shot and shot hard in turn for the net, but his shot went high above the top bar. There was no further score before the final whistle. Messrs Hunter and Morris were the umpires. JUNIOR RESULTS Junior results on Saturday were as follows: —Nawton 1, Arawa 1; Tokomaru 1, Ohaupo 1 Nawton wins the competition bv one point from Tokomaru.
