SUCCESSFUL YEAR
WAIKATO TROTTING CLUB INCREASE IN STAKES A successful year’s operations are reviewed in the annual report and balance-sheet of the Waikato Trotting Club to be presented at the annual meeting of the club in Toorak Chambers on Tuesday night. During the season stakes were increased by £B3B. Government taxation amounted to £6680 11s lOd and after allowing for £566 depreciation, a profit of £249 12s lid on the year’s operations is disclosed. In spite of unfavourable weather conditions, at the spring and summer meetings a high standard of racing was maintained, a new feature of the summer meeting being an Auckland Cup trial in which the whole field competed and provided a fine contest. During the year the club staged a meeting for the Wanganui Trotting Club with very successful results. The report expresses gratification at the club being granted an additional permit for the new season and meetings will be staged on November 3C, December 6 and May 10. Deep regret is expressed at the death of the president, Mr R. T. Reid, and Mr E. J. Swann, a member of the committee. The sympathy of the club is also extended to the families of the late Messrs H. W. Lucas and H C. Ross, members of the club, who died during the year. The retiring six members of the committee, Messrs A. W. Ebbett, P. G. Harkness. J. R. Henderson, A. S. Sutherland, H. Windsor and E. R. Vernall, were the only nominations received and they are re-elected unopposed.
