GREAT RE-SHUFFLE
JAPAN’S NEW PLANS AMBASSADORS RECALLED 1 DIPLOMATIC OFFENSIVE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 23, 3.15 p.m.) TOKIO, Aug. 22 A diplomatic re-shuffle on an unprecedented scale affects Ambassadors, also five counsellors and eleven Consul-Generals, in addition to extensive changes in the personnel of the Japanese Foreign Office. The Ambassadors at Brazil, Turkey and France, Mr Hotta, Ambassador at large, also the Ministers to Canada, Spain, Argentine, Peru, Chile, Columbia, Venezuela, Panama, Mexico, Afghanistan, Hungary, South Africa, Finland, Rumania, Latvia, Egypt, Bulgaria, Iran and Irak have been recalled. The Domei Agency says changes have been expected since Mr Matsuoka became Foreign Minister, and are considered to be preparatory to a diplomatic offensive. The Foreign Minister in a statement to the press, said: “Japanese diplomacy is entering a new area, in which those most able will be promoted from the ranks. The appointments will not be confined to Foreign Office officials. The successors will be named within a week.”
