Copyright) (Received August 23, 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, August 22 The death is announced of Lord Strickland. The late Lord Strickland was bom at Malta on May 24, 1861. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1887 with a Honours De-

gree in Law. From 1902-17 he was Governor of various colonies, including Tasmania, Western Australia and New South Wales. Since then his services were chiefly devoted to his own country of Malta, where he was a leading Senator. He was a member of the Malta Legislative Assembly 1921-30 and Leader of the Constitutional Party. Lord Strickland also owned and directed several Maltese newspapers, including the Malta Times. He received some publicity for his research work dealing with the Phoenician origin of the early Britons and Scots, contributing an article on this subject to the Encyclopaedia Britannica. In 1928 he was created the Ist Baron Strickland.
