CoDyrlflit) ( BERLIN, August 20 The High Command states: Our planes during armed reconnaissances ’ over England attacked armament i factories, fuel depots, railway works, ] aerodromes and troops’ camps, j especially in Sussex, Norfolk and 1 Oxfordshire. 1 Night attacks were made against “ aerodromes in southern England and harbour works and large tank de- £ pots on the south and south-west ] coasts of England. I j Enemy planes last night bombed j j residential quarters in various towns. ‘ . Several civilians were killed or in- (j jured and a number of houses destroyed. Five enemy planes were shot down. Two of ours are missing. A U-br,at sank the armed merchantmna Ampleforth, of 4578 tons. Another U-boat sank 6680 tons of merchant shipping and a third U-boat sank altogether 40,000 tons of merchant shipping. The news agency claims that a Bristol Blenheim was shot down at ] Oldenburg. j It adds that large oil tanks near } the Manchester ship canal were set on fire and a railway junction seri- j ously damaged.
