FAREWELL AT TE AROHA
MEN OF THIRD ECHELON A civic farewell was tendered to members of the third echelon last week, when about 700 people from Te Aroha and the surrounding dis- ! trict, attended the presentation and ; social for the men held in the j Catholic Hall. About 60 of the 75 soldiers going from Te Aroha were present and as each man came forward for his presentation, he was warmly cheered. The Mayor, Mr R. Coulter, on behalf of the citizens of Te Aroha, presented each man with a money belt containing a sum ofl money and wished him luck and j a safe return. Lieutenant Peter Gil- I christ expressed the appreciation of j the men and said the presence of so j many of their fellow citizens fired i them with fresh enthusiasm to serve their country, knowing that they would nol be forgotten by those they left behind. Between the dances, items were given by Mrs T. Monaghan, Mr F. Baker, Pte. J. J. Vulinovich and Pte. J. H. Walsh.
