PATRIOTIC FUNDS
CHANGE IN METHOD COLLECTION IN PROVINCES (By Telegraph.—Presa Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The future policy to be followed by the National Patriotic Fund Board and provincial patriotic councils regarding appeals for funds was outlined by Mr G. Hayden, secretary of the National Board. He said that unless extraordinary circumstances arose the board would not undertake further national appeals. The provincial councils would make appeals direct for the entertainment of troops and other requirements in their districts, and for the establishrr/nt of funds for the care of dependants and rehabilitation of the men on their return to civil life. From the moneys the councils raised they would also contribute to the National Patriotic Fund.
All that was being done was to change the method of collection of funds in conformity with the decisions reached at the conference at Wellington.
The National Fund would still operate, and in addition to continuing to provide a service, as it hitherto had, for men in New Zealand and men who went overseas, it now was called upon to provide social and recreation amenities for the men in camp under the intensified home defence training programme.
By supporting the provincial appeals the public would contribute to the local requirements and also the National Fund
