RECRUITS IN DOUBT
MEN FOR SPECIAL UNITS TRANSFERS TO 2nd N.Z.E.F. When the urgent call came a few weeks ago for men to volunteer and enter camp immediately for training with the special railway and forestry units of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, more men enlisted in the No. 4 (Hamilton) military area than were required. The men who have not been called up for these special units are now in doubt whether they are likely to be called up for one of the ordinary army units in the Fourth Reinforcements of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Inquiries made at the Army Office reveal that no more men are likely to be called up for either the forestry or railway units, both of which are at full strength. If men who have enlisted specially for those units and have not been called up desire to enter the Fourth Reinforcements, or another ordinary unit of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, they must make application at the Army Office and the transfer will be made. Unless the men desire to transfer for general service, no transfer will be made and the men will become eligible for service under the ballot conscription scheme.
