RED CROSS SOCIETY
TE AWAMUTU MEETING A general meeting of the Te Awamutu branch of the Red Cross Society was held in the Te Awamutu Town Hall on Thursday afternoon, when Mrs C. G. Downes, the president, presided over a large attendance. Mr G. Spinley addressed the meeting in reference to the Lady Galway Guild scheme. He asked the Red Cross Society to carry on collecting refugee clothing, and suggested forming a committee for the reception of refugee children. He asked if the Patriotic Society and Red Cross Society could co-operate in their work in regard to refugee clothing. Mrs Downes replied that the Red Cross would co-operate in every way possible. The treasurer’s report was read. There were 486 members. The total received for the Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund was £2580 17s 9d. The car brought in £lO7 16s, raid the horse £lO. Mrs Downes thanked all for making the drive such a wonderful success. A vote of thanks was also recorded to the bank officials, Mrs Neilson and Mrs Judd. Reports of the various sub-com-mittees were then read from Paterangi, Puahue, Tokanui, Parawera, Kihikihi, Korakonui - Wharepuhanga and Te Rore. Conveners of the sewing circle, entertainment circle, and musical circle then read their reports. It was decided that Mesdames Dawson and McArthur be appointed to take charge of the depot and appoint helpers for various days.
