OLD BOYS’ VICTORY CITY DOWN 21—6 Although it was in the last few minutes that Old Boys piled on 10 points and gave the team a wide margin over City on No. 1 ground, the victory was a convincing one and well deserved. The game was bright and exciting though Old Boys was the better side on the day. City badly missed the services of Dobson and Atkinson, two of its star backs The teams were:— Old Boys: Albert Lissette, Slow, Paterson, Bartlett, Alan Lissette, Vogt, Broad, Blow, Lee, Jones, Bary, McLean, Sayers, Bremer, Waite. City: Brighouse, Smith, Perkins, Grey, Kelly, Heywocd, McCabe, Dowiing, Spiro, Barr, R. Keen, Barr, W. Keen, Johnson, Grocock, Osborne. Old Boys had the early advantage but a free kick enabled City to reach an attacking position. Bary and Bremer led Old Boys backs and the rear-guard gained further ground, but Paterson was smothered after cutting through. Lee and Jones carried on for Old Boys but City was relieved by a penalty from a five yard scrum. City was obliged to force down shortly afterwards. A Bright Score Then came a bright score as the result of a back movement. Alan Lissette picked up a rolling ball splendidly and Paterson and Slow handled crisply for the winger to dive over in the corner. Slow failed to convert.—Old Boys 3, City 0. Brighouse gave City the margin of attack by a good run and a short punt. Kelly then had a snap shot at the goal which just failed, Old Boys gaining relief from a penalty. A good pick up by Perkins in the face of an Old Boys forward attack, saved City. Jones, Sayers and Waite then participated in a short passing rush, but Waite was forced out. Albert Lissette saved well twice and then Bary dashed through but was tackled in goal. Patterson and Slow combined again, but Slow hit the corner flag. Bary again came through and this time he scored a fine try, Slow converting. —Old Boys 8, City 0. Old Boys Again Within a few minutes Old Boys scored again. Broad and Slow worked the blind side and Broad scored a splendid try. Slow failing.—Old Boys 11, City 0. Jones, Sayers, Broad and McLean

After Johnson had missed a penalty goal Kelly goaled from another chance.—City 6 : Old Boys 11. A good run by Kelly and Smith gave City the advantage but a bright passing movement by the Old Boys forwards saw play back to neutral territory. A fine run by Waite put Old Boys close. Two Quick Tries The Old Boys backs had another fine run but the tackling was very -afe. Eventually City forced down. A score under the posts by B. Paterson put the match beyond doubt. Slow converted. Paterson earned the try by good following up. Immediately afterwards Old Boys -cored again. Broad changed the direction of attack and McLean, Waite and Slow handled in turn for Slow to score under the posts. He converted the try and the game ended— Old Boys 21 City 6 Air L. Retter was the referee.
