TROOPS IN LONDON OPENING CEREMONY RAILWAY’S GENEROSITY (Received July 5, 3.15 p.m.) (From the Official War Correspondent with the N.Z. Forces in Britain.) LONDON, July 4 The London centre of the New Zealand Y.M. C.A. was opened by the High Commissioner, Mr W. J. Jordan, who paid tribute to the generosity of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway owners in making available the building, which was leased for a peppercorn rental. Disclaiming thanks. Mr Ashton Davies, vice-president of the London, Midland and Scottish, said: “We are all engaged in the one task —every son of the Mother Country and every son of the Dominions. We are all out to do our best.” Sir Henry McMahon, president, extended the good wishes of the British Y.M.C.A. The Bishop of Waiapu, the Rt. Rev. G. V. Gerard, senior New Zealand Chaplain, dedicated the building in prayer. Mr R. W. Gunson, formerly of Auckland, has undertaken the honorary management of the centre, and is being assisted by a volunteer staff of former New Zealand women.
