ATTEMPTED ESCAPE
PRISONER REPEATS OFFENCES (By TrtegTaph.—rress Association) CHRISTCHURCH. Thursday ‘‘You have already been given six months to punish you for the same offence, so we will make it 12 this time,” said Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., to Jeoffrey Francis Evans Turner, who was charged that he attempted to escape from Paparua Prison. The Prison Superintendent, Mr Spittal, said Turner had been transferred to Paparua from Invercargill Borstal last October, and had several times tried to escape. An instrument had been discovered in his cell, and one bar was found almost severed. He had escaped from Invercargill on two occasions and been given five years’ Borstal, with an additional year for his next escape. Today’s sentence is to be concurrent with that which Turner is already serving.
