CHURCH MISSIONS

WAIKATO DIOCESE POSITION INCREASE IN CONTRIBUTIONS The fact that the Waikato Diocese was better off financially than any other diocese in New Zealand was commented upon by the Bishop of Waikato, the Rt. Rev. C. A. Cherrington, at the annual Synod of the Waikato Diocese, which was held in Hamilton yesterday. There had been an increase in the diocesan contributions to missions, according to the report presented to Synod by the Rev. Canon C. W. Turner, Canon for missionary work. The Waikato Diocese contributed £759, an increase of £49 over the previous year. Seven parishes subscribed their full quota, four of these raising the additional 12 per cent asked for by the board. “It may be asked whether we should curtail the work because of war requirements,£ stated*the report. “The is>n Appeal to all ‘irJfcjJtlßß«fculties' to. do their of the Church noes not suffer, and especially to support the essential service of the Church—to give witness to the ever-living Christ, unto the uttermost parts of the earth.’ To lessen our help to the work of the Church overseas would at once be failure and betrayal.”
