TAX EXEMPTION
HOSTS TO EVACUEES BILL TO MAKE PROVISION (By TelegT«pb.—special to Times) WELLINGTON, Tuesday Provision would be contained in the coming Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill entitling persons who received and maintained British children under the Government scheme to the usual exemption of £SO allowed for children for income tax purposes, said the Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, in the House of Representatives tonight, when replying to a question asked by Mr J. A. Lee (Democratic Labour—Grey Lynn) on behalf of the Hon. W. E. Barnard (Democratic Labour— Napier). Mr Fraser said the necessary clause had already been drafted. Mr Lee also asked whether the Government would be prepared to recognise children maintained under the scheme for family allowance purposes, and Mr Fraser said the necessary authority existed under section 23 of the Social Security Act. The Social Security Commission would give favourable consideration to applications. HOMES IN MORRINSVILLE (special to Times.) MORRINSVILLE, Tuesday Nine further offers to accommodate British refugee children who might be brought to New Zealand have been received by the Rev. E. T. Jones, who is acting as registrar in Morrinsville. This brings the total of homes offered at Morrinsville to 59 and the children to be accommodated in the vicinity of 70.
